I was the amazing sperm cell

Out of millions that dove into my mom’s egg

My sister didn’t make it

But she lives inside my head

I grew instantly and in nine months

Out popped my head

And now I’m grown…

Bills behind but mentally ahead

Baloney sandwiches, Syrup sandwichs

Ketchup sandwiches, Mayonnaise sandwiches

A humbling meal but I still

Pray before having them

Ramen noodles are a delicacy

And eating them is a habit

When you’re waiting on foodstamps

To come on a certain day like the 11th

I served my country for four years

And to return the favor

The only job my city would give me

Is a dishwasher for minimum wage

And hard labor

But I still pursue my dream

And I still spill my life on paper

Regardless of who supports

And who will regret they didn’t later

I grind hard daily

And soak my body at night in my own tears

I will be successful

I don’t care if it take 50 years

Cuz I will one day be elevated from

This poverty, racism and suffering

I came from nothing

Which is exactly what I’ve always asked for…

So I continue….
